The Shadowlands of Personal Ancestral Psychology

A five-day residential educational training intensive

Prerequisites: Past attendance at Heart of the Wounded Healer, Singing Over the Bones, Original Voice®, Master Training, Ancient Archetypes, Creative Fire or Mysterium.
All participants in this training will have to show a valid proof of vaccination and booster. Anyone arriving without this proof will, sadly, be turned away.

Though overculture pays little attention to the critical freedoms and holiness factors which the Shadows [yes plural] contain, the overculture overlooks also that the Shadow[s] are, in ancient ways of seeing, a plural Being in its own right, a teacher, healer, helper, presence palpable and discerning, one we can perceive through dreams, and daylight trance, through sudden inspiration, seeking of useful intuitions, touching on second world of Soul and Spirit- once one knows the deeper territories of The Shadowlands.

OVERVIEW

For the sake of person’s living in full depth and beauty, Dr. Estés Réyes will amend the idea that Shadow is a single idea. As a fine art painter and psychoanalyst she observes what she calls the 'oceanic psyche,’ being similar to objects beheld in art and sculpture—that instead of one Shadow, there are three Shadows… the Shadow itself, the umbra and the penumbra, each helping to clearly define beauty, balance, harmony, shape, comprehension, and more…

She sees that the balances or imbalances of Shadows can be imbedded in the neurology of the body for good or not so good, in the mind of thoughts for clarity or obfuscation, in the heart for good or ill will, the Soul blocked or unblocked from transmitting and receiving important exhortations and information, and the child Spirit being open or blocked from its innate joy at original invention and creative life.

Entering the Shadowlands to arrange and activate and deactivate these aspects is critical to whole psyche--that is self-knowing of all that one carries… and to put it all to good use.

There can be no Shadows without The Light —the Greater governing Spirit carries such ¡Relampago! Lightening! ¡Fuego! Fire! Sweeter than sweet elan vitale, a vigorous animating Force. These are ever present in the psyche as well, either blocked or porous, in half shade of itself or seemingly opaque.

Entering the Shadowlands to arrange and activate and deactivate these aspects is critical to whole psyche--that is self-knowing of all that one carries… and to put it all to good use.

“Wherever the earth is hurt, wherever the creatures are injured—the object, idea, act that harmed them, tears us open and injures us too.

When an injustice is done to one of our own or to one we embrace as treasures on this earth—that assault also injures others. In this sense we now expand in this training to more deeply understand the cultures our ancestors lived in, the overculture we now live in, and how their gifts and unmended griefs can still stand in our shadow, culturally and personally. All these yet united and untended to—utterly deserving of care and memorial and mending.

We will consider ancient and modern cries for help that never came, or did come and somehow helped raise our kin—and us—back up again. That history and those remedios, and those as yet unhealed wounds belong to us in our one of a kind ways. Raising them to the light and balanced attitude, emotion and thought is the healing path.

We will dive into these layers of personal inner life and the outer world we traverse and make a home in what we call in curanderismo the Nagual, the place between the worlds where there is peace, fair resolution, unusual bridgings and solutions—and also trimming and adding to the unfinished business of each world—one some call the akasha and some call the second world. All this endeavor is to consciously strive to be in balance with consensual reality as we live out our creative, seriously challenged, lively and thoughtful days.

Imagine the Shadow not as potential or action or lack of immersion, but as a Being that can both remain sleeping or teach in depth. Trance work will help us see, hear and more so know what is being said to us about integrity and balance and far more ease, and with conscious inquiry whether those shadow responses came from spirit, human, or the creatural.

This is a training for the dedicated learner who has and is working to help place ego in second position, Soul in first position.

It is for people who can enter “the closed container," meaning, remain in soul and spirit, attend fully every session, and be present and be willing to go deep -- perhaps for some, while enduring discomfort, if any, (physical, emotional or psychological) that might arise, for this may be part of one’s own personal process.

It is for those who have the physical ability to do some of this work outdoors if asked, (nothing arduous, but being able to be outdoors on a short trek for instance).

It is for those who think they hear the summons and are serious, who seek to learn the benefits and honored ways of prayer and ceremony, who can value the spirit in all things, including one’s own ancestors, and listen with an open and ‘beginner’s mind’ and heart.
